Keep your restaurant equipment in good shape with regular maintenance

Whether you buy new or used, restaurant equipment is a big investment, especially for new enterprises. It's important to keep up with regular maintenance and cleaning, because these items are often very expensive to replace. Since you've made such a large financial commitment, you want your machinery to be around for years to come.

In order to make sure you get the most use out of your investment, follow these simple tips for restaurant equipment maintenance in your establishment:

1. Give your entire kitchen a good scrub down at least once each week. This means cleaning machines, pantries, walls and floors from top to bottom to ensure that there's no bacteria building up in unlikely places. Make sure you get down under and behind your larger pieces of equipment, such as commercial ranges and ovens.

2. Encourage your employees to clean up spills as soon as they occur to prevent germs and contamination, and to ensure against safety hazards like fires and slips.

3. When scrubbing down your equipment, make sure you read the manufacturer's directions so that you don't inadvertently use materials that may harm the surface.

4. Store smaller pieces of restaurant equipment, like blenders and food processors, away inside cabinets while they're not in use to prevent damage or dirt buildup.
