Tips for cleaning a commercial oven

Commercial ovens see a lot of heavy use, which means that build-up caused by spills and debris can quickly add up. In order to keep your restaurant running smoothly, and ensure the health of your patrons, it's important to keep your oven in top shape.

Here are a few tips on how to keep your commercial oven sparkling clean:

1. Remove the oven racks and place them in the sink to soak. Be sure to use a strong dish detergent.

2. You can make your own non-toxic cleanser with baking soda and lemon juice. Fill an empty spray bottle half-full with hot water, two tablespoons of baking soda and one tablespoon of lemon juice. Shake it to ensure the solution is mixed.

3. While the oven is cool, thoroughly spray down the interior. Let it sit on the surface for 10 to 15 minutes before wiping it away with a cloth or sponge designated for cleaning restaurant equipment.

4. Use the rest of the solution to tackle any remaining debris on the racks before giving them a good scrub with steel wool or an abrasive sponge.

Make sure you make the effort to give it a thorough cleanse at least once a week, in addition to regular wipe-downs at the end of the working day.
